A backpack of their own makes a young child that little bit prouder straight away. For toddlers and preschoolers it is not about lots of storage, but about a bag that is light, sits comfortably and features a character they recognise. The backpacks in this collection are made exactly for that: small in size, usually around 22 cm, and with a cheerful 3D design on the front. If you are after a larger model for primary school, take a look at the regular backpacks.
A toddler backpack is deliberately kept compact. It is small enough to stay put on a narrow back and light enough to carry alone, even with a cup and a small cuddly toy inside. Most models have soft, adjustable shoulder straps and a simple zip that little hands can manage themselves. That way a child gets used to their own bag while playing.
The backpacks in this collection mostly suit children from around 1 to 4 years old. For a toddler, 22 cm is a good size: big enough for the essentials, small enough not to get in the way. As your child grows older and starts primary school, a sturdier model is handier. In that case take a look at the school bags for girls or other school bags for boys.
A toddler backpack is used for far more than daycare. It is just as handy for a sleepover at grandma and grandpa's, a day out or a swimming lesson. A spare set of clothes, a drinking cup or a small toy for the journey fits inside. Because the child carries their own bag, they learn to keep track of their own things right away.
Many children like it when their backpack matches the rest of their things. A toddler backpack pairs nicely with a matching bag or water bottle in the same theme. When your child starts school later on, you can expand with school supplies in the same style. That way the theme keeps coming back as your child grows.
A compact toddler backpack is comfortable for young children, but it does not grow with them. If your child is already at primary school and needs to fit a lunch box, a water bottle and a few notebooks, 22 cm quickly becomes too small. In that case choose a larger model instead. Also make sure a toddler does not carry too much: keep the bag light, so it stays on the back and does not slip down.
